Home of the flagship of the University of Maine System,  UMaine has an enrollment of 11,000+ and is one of 99 “high research activity” universities in the U.S., as classified by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.  It conducts $70 million to $100 million of R&D annually, with strong specialties in engineering, marine science, composites, physics and surface science, biological and ecological sciences, and forestry and agriculture.

Transportation

Orono is served by two exits off Interstate 95 – Exit 191 (Kelley Road), 4 miles north of the Bangor Mall, and Exit 193 (Stillwater), with direct access to the Maine Technology Industrial Park.  Bangor International Airport is minutes away.  Public transportation is available throughout the day, including the Community Connector, the Black Bear Orono Express between the UMaine campus and Downtown Orono, and inter-city bus Concord Coach Line.  The Bangor region is served by rail, and the Port of Searsport is within 40 milesvia U.S. Route 1A.

High Speed Connections to the World

Orono’s Downtown, its Maine Technology Park, and the University of Maine are on a fiber network with the highest capacity and fastest Internet connections available in Maine.

Educated Workforce
